Finally I was able to find my blog on google . What a relief! Now the question is how do I edit my templete? I will have to play around, seek "help" and figure it out.
I have not read "dear raed" in a long time. The last entry was actually March 24, if I am correct. What happened?

I simply can't get to my blog on the Internet. I have tried various ways. I do have to find out why! I can do it through my 'blogger' account but not on google or not even yahoo. Certainly seems ironical-- I mean, I can post on my blog but can't retrieve it on the Internet.So much for that!

I have been really stumped by this "giving back" project. I just don't know why.It is like I am having a one long mental block. All I seem to be doing is helping with book reportsat home--I have to read the books before I can say anything about them. May is fast approaching. I find May to be most busiest time--schools are winding down and all the concerts, nights, plays seem to stagger into it.

Oh! it been a long time since I wrote. Our Internet class has been winding down. This was one of the most interesting class that I have taken. It was more interesting because of the teacher--I found a mixture of practical knowledge (not just the bookish theory) and respect for adult learners (It was not like 'take 1/2 a point off for this mistake' type) incorporated into the curriculum. I have taken enough classes so far to form a view. Although I am an introvert until I get to know a person, I observe, and listen (I try with one good ear). Most of the time it seems (from questions and overhearing conversations) that what is important is 'grades' and very basic knowledge of the course work--because one will always get experience when one starts working which may be lifelong. This was/has been one of those classes that I have enjoyed most.

It's been a long time since I wrote. The reason being I was away on vacation--to D.C. I found it very fascinating city. We lived only a few blocks away from the White House (although we couldn't see it for security reasons). I thought the city was full of life--pulsating(?)(May be I thought it so because it is our capital). We went to most of the museums-- Air and Space, , American History, Holocaust museum, Natural History, International Spy Museum, etc. Metro is one of the best transportation in D.C. The people seemed (especially motorist in downtown verses in Chicago downtown) more patient. May be they are used to getting visitors in their way--it's just a matter of habit (that is being patient I ,mean.)

I just found out the spider (probably Google) has spread its web wide enough to include my "humble" blog. I don't know how I feel. When I started the blog, the sense of privacy was lessened yet it was okey, because only the class was reading (?) my blog. Now when I found my cro_kni on Google, I don't know----! I am still struggling with my giving back to the web project. I am not much of a teaching person. I don't like to be on stage But I will have to do it I suppose.

I am having a hard time to find time to do my class assignments. As the kids are growing up, their demands are also growing--piano lessons, swim team practice, drama rehearsals, sports, movies, socialization-- more tiring on the parents because of chauffeuring, 'chef' ing, 'maid'ing and such other ings.

Just finished reading an old favorite of mine The R Document by Irving Wallace. It was an interesting read. I am having a good time reading the usenet group. Sometimes I wish I can just communicate as myself. The group seems to be close--they seem to know a lot about each other They seem to live nearby.

I really like the group.

May be I will join the group too.

I found a site which has quite a few granny squares. Here is the link: virtual afghan. Some of them are really interesting. I would really like to try some of them out and may be make an afghan. I have alrealy finished one crochet baby afghan (to be given away to a collegue's new born) and another one on the make for another friend of mine. I wish I could put them on my blog (I mean pictures) just for the fun of it.

Just saw Bowling for Columbine. My hats off to Michael Moore. It is a documentary about gun control and violence. Moore gave many examples of how other countries, e.g.Canada, has 7 out of 10 households owning a gun because it is country of hunting and fishing but very little gun violence. Moore asked why do we have so much violence although other countries have equally violent past--no one, including Heston (yes, the same Heston who played Moses in Ten Commandments) had the answer. I don't want to keep at it,but I would highly recommend this movie to everyone.

Yesterdays class was interesting. Heard different perspective on new technology and libraries with different aspect to consider--budgeting, technical, librarian's point of view, etc. What struck me most was Needs of the patrons are of utmost important

Technology has to be accomodated to fulfill the needs of the patron.

It is surely a very confusing issue. Anything can go under "fair use". I made a copy of a sweater pattern--it is "fair use" (?). What about the images available on the Internet, which you can download and use them in your web page? Is it fair use? What about the colors found on the Internet? Now it is really getting confusing for me. Any way, I liked one of the quotes made by the Director of BPL. She said that it is the attitude towards the new technology that matters--I agree. The library will not find derth of librarians when many will retire in the future because this younger generation is deft with the new technology and is already exposed to it and it does not feel oppressed like some of us do. "Old order changeth yielding place to new so why be afraid? Books will always stay otherwise all the bookstores would have gone belly up--actually, it seems like they are thriving.

Finally finished the assignment. It was fun to go through all the demos that Google has. Honestly, I could not get what the original google cannot do that these can--except probably the voice search. But that technology is coming. My 12 year old is already is playing with some kind of voice-activated commands. It is amazing to see these young kids just zooming past people like us. They sure are not afraid of pushing any buttons.

Did not get almost any responses from the mailing lists except what I got in the beginning--welcoming, etc. etc. But the news group that I visit, (seem to have quieten down for responses) does seem like an interesting group who know each other on first name basis and talk like they are great friends. They all seem from England (rather familiar with England, and Europe), because they talk about english yarns, yarn store in Italy, etc., and places that were more familiar to me back then when I was in India (British Raj influence, I guess). Any way, I just like to read the responses to eachother--although I do feel I am eavesdropping.

I have been thinking about the video. I have kids who are growing up and if I am not going to give my daughter, Judy Blume's "forever" to read at this delicate adolescent age, then I should not tell girls in that age group to read it for the sole reason that is a landmark book. If I did, then I would be practicing double standards when I say I am going to follow the ALA Bill of Rights.

I selected newsgroup called "rec.crafts.textile.yarns", because here were groups of similiar hobbies. I just chose one group of Katherine Burgess and posted a message which recieved replies. I posted my message on January 31st, at 7 am. The text of my post is also given below along with the replies I recieved so far. I became aware of the responses around 10 pm the same day. I found it quite interesting--I was looking forward to the responses--made me realize more so that no man is an island. I think Usenet is a haven for introverts and lonely people too who have something to look forward to in the form of communication.

Now the question is: what am I going to say? Yes, I know, I can say anything but what and what would make it "creative'? Well, I can always try. It is a weird feeling that others will know what I feel and think. I am sure I wouldn't want to trade places with the President after watching a program (I can't remember what it was titled) on the tv about secret service and their responsibilites. Anyway...........everyone's life has been affected in some way or other after September 11th. One of the simple pleasures I used to have was to carry my knitting on me whenver I travelled. I could entertain myself without getting bored and at the same time finish a little item in turn. Today, all that I have is a book, which may not turn out to be what it looked like, so I end up being a devout observant of expressions and of human nature. Not that, I don't enjoy that, but it still is not knitting.
